Application

The Arts and Cultural Management Masters Programme

You can only apply and enrol for the "Arts and Cultural Management" masters programme in the winter. The new programme started in the 2016/2017 winter term.

Subject to the approval of the Faculty Council of the Philosophical Faculty, the admission requirements for the Master's degree course in Arts and Cultural Management for the winter term 2017/2018 are as follows:

We expect a BA or similar degree in art history, business administration or related courses in the arts and humanities, cultural studies, social sciences and law with a mark not less than 2.0.

(1) An BA degree in business administration is relevant if there has been earned sufficient knowledge in business administration (at least 60 ECTS points), deepened knowledge of theoretical economics and political economy (at least 20 ECTS points) as well as basic knowledge of the statistical methods (at least 10 ECTS Points).

(2) A BA degree in arts and humanities or cultural studies is relevant, if knowledge in the field of art history has been acquired that corresponds at least to the relevant BA supplementary study course at the HHU. For this the following requirements must be fulfilled:

  • a. Proven knowledge in at least two final examinations in the area of medieval and modern art history (20-30 ECTS in total) comparable to the basic modules of the bachelor's degree in art history at the HHU.
  • b. Proven knowledge in at least two final examinations in the area of middle, modern or recent art history (20-30 ECTS) comparable to the basic modules of the bachelor's degree in art history at the HHU.
  • c. Basic knowledge of the arts and cultural sciences of at least 54 ECTS. The extent to which studies should be completed in the field of art history is a maximum of 18 ECTS.

(3) An interdisciplinary BA degree is relevant if both, knowledge in the field of arts and cultural sciences as well as business management theory, have been acquired, which in scope and content meet at least the following requirements:

  • a. Basic knowledge of the business administration theory of at least 54 ECTS.
  • b. Basic knowledge of the arts and cultural sciences of at least 54 ECTS.
  • c. Proven knowledge in at least two final examinations in the area of medieval and modern art history (20-30 ECTS in total) as well as in the area of middle, modern or recent art history (20-30 ECTS) comparable to the basic modules (Methoden- und Formenlehre) of the bachelor's degree in art history at the HHU.
  • d. The extent to which studies should be completed in the field of art history is a maximum of 18 ECTS.

An aptitude assessment is going to test whether the requirements for the masters programme are fulfilled. The application and aptitude assessment will take place exclusively online . The guide for the application form can be found here.

Foreign students, who do not receive their BA certificate until the deadline has expired, may still apply afterwards for a delay fee of EUR 10.
